Migrations Made Easy

When you sign up for RoseHosting, you receive a brand new server with a fresh operating system of your choice. You could ask us to install any software you like on it, or you could also ask us to move your content from anywhere else on the Internet, as long as it is accessible by us.

To request a migration to be done by us, all you need to do is to submit a support ticket in our Client Area. We'll need to have access to the server where your websites and content are currently hosted.

After you provide us with access and a list of services that you need migrated over from your existing provider, we'll get to work immediately on moving everything you requested.

However, if you have constantly changing data that can't exist in two places due to new data always being written, then we recommend shutting off your services on your old server before the migration is initiated. This will ensure that no further changes are made on the old server that wouldn't be present on the new server once the migration is completed.

Once we have the credentials to log into the old server, we'll get to work right away on moving your services.

This includes moving almost anything you can think of - we'll move any number of databases that you have, including MySQL, MariaDB, PostgreSQL, and other database servers as well.

We'll also move almost any software stack that you have - whether it's WordPress, Magento, PrestaShop, Odoo, ERPNext, or even a plain website serving static files using a web server like Apache or Nginx, we migrate all  of these website types.

Additionally, we can migrate any data that you might have, such as images and documents from your websites. For example, if you have a media library for WordPress, we'll move that as a part of your WordPress migration.

We can also migrate your accounts from control panels such as WHM/cPanel or DirectAdmin - this includes websites, emails, and more. 

Once we make your websites, services, databases and more exist on your new server exactly as they were on the old server, we'll set up a unique link that will let you preview your website and content as if you had already moved your domain name and DNS records over to your new server. 

This will let you see the result of the migration and verify if everything looks as it should to our admin team. If something is not right or needs further adjustment, we'll help with that and make sure that the migration is done to the standards that you require.

We won't consider a migration as completed until you sign off that the migration looks successful and is considered completed. Even then we recommend thoroughly ensuring that all aspects of your services work as you expect them to. 

Once the migration is finished and you have verified your content looks the way you expect it to on your new server, all you'll need to do is adjust your DNS records to point to your new server's IP address.

As the change propagates throughout the Internet, your visitors will gradually start to use your new server instead of your old one, all without them noticing.

A seamless transfer with no downtime unfortunately can't be done for use cases/services that require data to be continuously written or updated on the server, as changes to the storage would mean the migration will have missing data if the service continues to run while the migration takes place.

Now that the services have been migrated and your users are now using the new server, we recommend keeping the old server for a few days extra just in case the migration needs something added to it, such as a plugin, module or something similar. We'll help you add whatever is missing from the server if you find something is not transferred over.
